Mayer vs Cameron: Three world titles on the line as MVPW-06 heads to Birmingham

Mikaela Mayer and Chantelle Cameron meet in a three-belt super welterweight unification fight at MVPW-06 in Birmingham, with Caroline Dubois, Terri Harper and more British talent also in action.

America’s Mikaela Mayer will make the trip across the pond this weekend to face the Midlands’ own Chantelle Cameron at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, with three super welterweight world titles on the line at MVPW-06.

Mayer brings the WBC and WBA belts with her to Britain, while Cameron puts her WBO crown on the line at the weekend.

The card on August 29 marks Most Valuable Promotions’ (MVP) fifth year in business since its inaugural event back in 2021, which saw the brand’s co-founder Jake Paul beat Tyron Woodley.

Five years later, this card in Birmingham truly highlights MVP’s power within the women’s side of the sport, as the promotion continues to put on high-level women’s fights with a large-scale roster featuring some of the best fighters not only in America, but across Europe as well.

Headlined by Mikaela Mayer taking on Chantelle Cameron to unify the WBA, WBC and WBO super welterweight belts, the co-main event features Caroline Dubois as she defends her WBC and WBO lightweight titles against Amelia Moore.

Mayer and Cameron meet in three-belt unification

Mayer, who holds a 22-2 record, last fought in Canada against Mary Spencer.

Over the course of the ten-round bout, Mayer dominated and defeated Spencer via unanimous decision, with the scorecards reading 100-90, 98-92 and 98-92.

Crucially, that victory made Mayer a world champion across three different divisions.

Despite being the smaller woman inside the ring that evening, Mayer worked well on the inside and applied consistent pressure, preventing Spencer from finding her rhythm.

Cameron, who has an equally impressive record of 22-1, last time out defeated Michaela Kotaskova via decision in April to become a two-weight world champion as she claimed the vacant WBO super welterweight title.

Chantelle Cameron’s résumé isn’t anything to brush over either, with a victory over Irish sporting hero Katie Taylor in 2023.

Cameron entered that contest as the betting underdog despite her success as a long-standing champion at light welterweight.

That remains the only section of red on Taylor’s professional record, with the Irishwoman getting her win back six months later in what remains the only defeat of Cameron’s professional career.

Cameron is set to have the advantage of a home crowd in Birmingham at the weekend. Mayer, however, is no stranger to fighting in England, having competed up and down the country, including against Natasha Jonas in Liverpool.

But on the night, will home advantage prove decisive, or will Mayer’s previous fights in enemy territory give her all the tools she needs to become the unified champion at this weight class?

Caroline Dubois defends against Amelia Moore

Caroline Dubois will seek to hold onto her unbeaten record when she and Amelia Moore meet in the event’s co-main event, with Dubois’ WBC and WBO lightweight titles on the line.

Last time out for Dubois, Terri Harper was the latest opponent added to her 13-0-1 professional record.

Headlining MVP’s first event in the UK, Dubois defeated Harper via unanimous decision after scoring a knockdown in the sixth round of their fight.

Amelia Moore, Dubois’ opponent in Birmingham, will be looking to shock the world in what represents the toughest test of her short professional career to date.

The former Team USA boxer heads to the UK as a significant underdog, with not many people giving her a chance in the bout.

Last time out, Moore defeated Bonnie Hunter to pick up the vacant NABF Lightweight Championship.

Now, Moore takes a considerable step up in competition with two world titles at stake. Will Dubois deliver the performance many expect in Birmingham, or can Moore produce one of the biggest upsets of her career on British soil?

British talent fills the MVPW-06 undercard

Also on the card, Terri Harper (16-3-2) will look to return to winning ways as she steps into the ring against Miranda Reyes (9-3-1).

Both women have previously suffered defeats to Dubois and will be looking to produce a standout performance against one another at the weekend.

The UK vs USA theme continues, with Coventry’s Jessica Barry (10-1-2) facing Texas’ Reina Tellez (13-1-1) in a featherweight contest where Barry will face a significant step up in competition. Tellez enters the bout as a former Team USA junior Olympian.

Tellez will be making her first appearance since going the distance with unified world champion Amanda Serrano in January, giving Barry the opportunity to test herself against an opponent who has shared the ring with one of the sport’s elite.

Tysie Gallagher (10-2) will also make her promotional debut in Birmingham when she takes on unbeaten American Brandi Robinson (5-0) in an eight-round super bantamweight contest.

For Gallagher, the contest represents an opportunity to make an immediate impression with MVP and could put her name on the map with a win against an American in front of a bigger audience.

Former WBA bantamweight world champion Shannon Courtenay (11-3) will also feature on the event’s preliminary card when she takes on Ebonie Cotton (2-2).

Indian boxer Neeraj Goyat (19-4-2) will face Germany’s Yessin Koulali (8-1) in a junior welterweight contest.

The 22-year-old Koulali has won six consecutive fights since turning professional in 2024, including a decision victory over fellow German Atilla Kayabasi in May.

Lincolnshire’s Gemma Richardson (4-0) will put her unbeaten professional record on the line against two-time European champion Kirstie Bavington (10-5-2) of Wolverhampton.

Will the silver medallist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games be able to add a fifth win and perhaps another knockout to her record against the local Bavington?

The final announced bout sees a rematch between West Midlands rivals Scott Melvin (12-1) and Dylan Cheema (11-3) in an eight-round lightweight scrap.

With the only defeat of Melvin’s career coming via a tightly contested split decision against Cheema in 2022, he will seek redemption in Saturday’s rematch.

With three world titles on the line and a stacked undercard featuring some of Britain and America’s most exciting talent, MVPW-06 promises to be a significant night for women’s boxing and the wider sport.

Mayer and Cameron will take centre stage in Birmingham with unification glory at stake, but with Dubois, Harper, Barry, Gallagher and a host of other fighters also looking to make their mark, there is plenty more to look forward to when MVP arrives in the UK on August 29.
