Moses Itauma Faces Filip Hrgović in Career-Defining Heavyweight Clash

Moses Itauma will face Filip Hrgović at London's O2 Arena on August 29 in the toughest test of his professional career as the unbeaten heavyweight prospect continues his rapid rise towards world title contention.

Moses Itauma is set to face the toughest test of his professional career when he takes on Filip Hrgović at London's O2 Arena on August 29.

The 21-year-old enters the bout undefeated as a professional, with 12 knockout victories from 14 fights, and will be aiming to keep his world title ambitions firmly on track with a statement win over the fifth-ranked heavyweight according to The Ring Magazine.

Hrgović returns to the UK following his latest victory in May, when he stopped Dave Allen in the third round in Doncaster, with Allen's corner throwing in the towel after a relentless barrage of punches proved too much for the hometown favourite.

Hrgović Brings Elite-Level Experience

The Croatian will arrive in the capital with significantly more experience at the highest level than his opponent. Hrgović previously earned IBF mandatory challenger status during Oleksandr Usyk's heavyweight title reign and also claimed bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

After suffering the first defeat of his career against current WBO heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in June 2024, Hrgović has rebuilt with three consecutive victories, most recently stopping Dave Allen after wins over Joe Joyce and David Adeleye.

Itauma Faces Biggest Test Yet

For Moses Itauma, his rise has been built on explosive knockout performances, establishing himself as one of boxing's most exciting heavyweight prospects. Since turning professional in 2023, he has rarely been extended, with most opponents overwhelmed inside the opening rounds.

His rapid ascent has been strengthened by standout stoppage wins over Dillian Whyte and Demsey McKean, alongside a fifth-round victory over American heavyweight Jermaine Franklin.

Queensbury promoter Frank Warren believes the fight is a major test of Itauma's development at this level.

“This has got all the makings of a classic heavyweight confrontation, and we were determined to get it over the line,” Warren said.

“This fight is the litmus test Moses is ready for and it is the one he wanted. Filip believes it will be too much too soon for the young star. At The O2 on August 29 we will find out on what will be another incredible night for British boxing.”

Victory for Moses Itauma would move him a major step closer to world title contention, while a win for Filip Hrgović would reaffirm his position among the heavyweight division's elite contenders.

Itauma enters the contest carrying significant momentum and growing expectations, while Hrgović remains determined to reinsert himself into the heavyweight title picture. On August 29, one of boxing's brightest prospects will find out whether he is truly ready for world-level opposition.
