Justin Gaethje finally reached the summit of the UFC lightweight division at UFC Freedom 250, defeating Ilia Topuria at the White House to become undisputed champion. The historic card also featured major victories for Ciryl Gane, Sean O’Malley, Mauricio Ruffy, Bo Nickal and Diego Lopes.

UFC Freedom 250 delivered one of the most memorable nights in MMA history as Justin Gaethje captured the UFC undisputed lightweight title at the White House, handing Ilia Topuria the first defeat of his professional career. The historic card also featured major wins for Ciryl Gane, Sean O’Malley, Mauricio Ruffy, Bo Nickal and Diego Lopes.

Justin Gaethje Stops Ilia Topuria to Win Lightweight Title

Third time was a charm for Justin Gaethje as he finally became the undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion, dethroning Ilia Topuria and handing the previously unbeaten star his first professional defeat.

For four rounds, it was a non-stop war between two gladiators who used everything they had in pursuit of a finish.

Topuria came close to stopping ‘The Highlight’ in the second round after dropping the challenger with brutal body shots before threatening with ground-and-pound and multiple submission attempts.

The tables turned in the third round as ‘El Matador’ appeared to expend plenty of energy during his dominant second-round effort. Gaethje took advantage, dropping the Georgian and adding further damage to an already bloodied face.

After a gruelling fourth round in which both men traded heavy shots, Topuria was unable to continue as his corner advised the referee to stop the contest, crowning Gaethje as the new 155-pound champion at the White House.

It remains unclear whether Gaethje will continue competing as champion or choose to retire at the top of the sport, but the 37-year-old will undoubtedly celebrate one of the biggest victories of his career after years of chasing undisputed gold.

Ciryl Gane Knocks Out Alex Pereira

Elsewhere on the card, several contenders strengthened their championship credentials with statement victories across multiple divisions.

Cyril Gane earned arguably the biggest win of his UFC career after finishing Alex Pereira in the second round to become a two-time Interim Heavyweight Champion.

After a measured opening round, the Frenchman delivered a sharp jab that dropped ‘Poatan’, leaving the Brazilian badly hurt and in serious trouble.

'Bon Gamin' wasted little time capitalising on the opportunity, swarming Pereira with powerful punches before ultimately knocking the former two-division champion out on his feet.

With such an emphatic victory, it seems only fitting that ‘Bon Gamin’ receives a rematch against undisputed heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

Sean O’Malley Returns to Winning Ways

Sean O’Malley secured his first knockout victory since August 2023, re-entering the title conversation after stopping Aiemann Zahabi.

‘Suga’ focused heavily on his boxing throughout the contest but was repeatedly troubled by Zahabi’s persistent leg kicks.

However, while Zahabi found success attacking the legs, he struggled to generate meaningful offence with his hands. O’Malley eventually found the breakthrough with a devastating left hand before following up with a finishing two-punch combination.

Josh Hokit Stops Derrick Lewis

Josh Hokit extended his undefeated record to 10-0 after stopping knockout record-holder Derrick Lewis in the second round.

‘The Incredible Hok’ spent much of the opening round testing Lewis on the ground, controlling position and landing occasional ground-and-pound before unsuccessfully attempting an armbar late in the frame.

Hokit’s wrestling appeared to drain the energy of ‘The Black Beast’, allowing the fifth-ranked contender to take over in the second round and secure a TKO victory with a barrage of punishing strikes.

Mauricio Ruffy Makes Statement Against Michael Chandler

Mauricio Ruffy recorded the 13th knockout victory of his MMA career with a stunning first-round finish over Michael Chandler.

The Brazilian remained composed throughout the contest, landing damaging strikes to both the head and body before producing the decisive moment.

A vicious spinning kick followed by a barrage of punches brought the fight to a dramatic conclusion and delivered one of the standout finishes of the night.

The 29-year-old is expected to remain among the lightweight division’s top contenders and is increasingly being viewed as a future title challenger.

Bo Nickal Continues Knockout Streak

Bo Nickal claimed his second consecutive knockout victory by stopping Kyle Daukaus in the opening round.

The 30-year-old secured an early takedown and controlled much of the first round on the mat before referee Jason Herzog elected to stand both men up in search of more action.

The restart proved decisive. Moments later, Nickal dropped Daukaus with a sharp two-punch combination before a vicious ground-and-pound sequence brought the middleweight contest to an end.

Diego Lopes Bounces Back With TKO Victory

Diego Lopes bounced back from his recent title defeat with a wild second-round TKO victory to open UFC Freedom 250.

Steve Garcia made life difficult for the Brazilian early on, timing his strikes effectively and ending the opening round with momentum firmly on his side.

Lopes responded by turning the contest into a chaotic firefight. As both men exchanged punches in close quarters, the number two-ranked featherweight contender found his moment, dropping Garcia before securing the stoppage to maintain his position near the top of the division.

A Night That Will Be Remembered

Whether UFC Freedom 250 ultimately becomes a one-off spectacle or the beginning of a new era for the promotion, there is little doubt that the event delivered on its enormous promise.

From Justin Gaethje capturing undisputed lightweight gold and handing Ilia Topuria his first defeat, to Ciryl Gane’s statement victory over Alex Pereira and a card packed with highlight-reel finishes, the White House played host to one of the most unique nights in MMA history.

The UFC has staged events across the globe and broken countless records over the years, but bringing a championship fight card to the lawn of the White House represented something entirely different. UFC Freedom 250 was more than just another pay-per-view; it was a landmark moment for the sport, and one that fans are unlikely to forget any time soon.
