Cage Warriors 205 Glasgow Plunged Into Chaos After Multiple Fight Cancellations
Multiple late fight cancellations forced Cage Warriors 205 in Glasgow to proceed with a heavily disrupted fight card.
The main event was scheduled as a welterweight title unification bout between Justin Burlinson (10-2) and Scotland’s own Sean Clancy Jr (8-0).
Across their combined 20 professional bouts, neither man had ever gone to a decision. A clash between two proven finishers, the fight was widely viewed as one of the most anticipated matchups in European MMA.
With a UFC call-up potentially awaiting the winner, the stakes could not have been higher.
The event followed a strong run for the promotion, including Cage Warriors 200, where new champions were crowned in dominant fashion.
The undercard also promised excitement, featuring rising Scottish prospects such as Michael Blair and Aidan Stephen.
But what followed was a chaotic unravelling that left the Cage Warriors 205 fight card in tatters.
The First Omen
The first major disruption came at weigh-ins.
The co-main event between Michael Blair and Ermil Xhaferi was cancelled after Xhaferi missed weight by nearly 9lbs. Scheduled for 155lbs, he weighed in at 164.5lbs.
According to Blair’s Instagram, attempts to salvage the fight fell through.
He wrote:
“I said if he got down to 160lbs we would take the fight, but he wasn’t interested and refused to try.
Gutted for all the people who spent their money coming to support me, but there’s still a great fight card with my teammates Jordan Stronge, Jamie McGowan and Igor Wojtas still fighting, so go support them.”
Main Event Cancelled
Cage Warriors 205 suffered its biggest blow just hours before the event.
While showering in his hotel room, Justin Burlinson sustained a severe cut to his arm after slicing it on a ceramic soap dish attached to the wall.
Initial reports suggested a minor injury, but teammate Charles Joyner clarified the severity.
He stated:
“As you will see from these videos, the laceration is deep and he lost a lot of blood this morning. He received 25 stitches in total — 10 internally and 15 externally.”
Despite the injury, Burlinson was reportedly willing to compete and was medically cleared.
However, his corner ultimately made the decision to withdraw him from the fight, prioritising his safety.
Cage Warriors later confirmed that the title bout will be rescheduled, with Graham Boylan present in Glasgow attempting to manage the situation behind the scenes.
Disaster Strikes Again
The disruption did not end there.
In a final blow to the Cage Warriors 205 card, Jordan Stronge was forced out of his fight against Marc Ngatchou following a car accident.
The news broke less than an hour before the event was due to begin.
As a result, the bout was cancelled, with limited details currently available regarding the incident.
Stronge is a teammate of Scottish veteran Chris Bungard, who had also been scheduled to compete earlier in the build-up. However, Bungard was left without an opponent after multiple withdrawals and did not feature on the final card.
Chaos Continues: Sullivan Fights Through Car Crash
The chaos surrounding Cage Warriors 205 did not stop with cancellations.
Taylor Sullivan was also involved in a car accident while travelling to the airport ahead of the event. Despite the incident, Sullivan still made the journey to Glasgow and competed on the card.
In a testament to his toughness, he stepped into the cage against Jamie McGowan but ultimately came up short, suffering a third-round TKO defeat.
It was another surreal chapter in a night that seemed determined to test every fighter involved.
A Card in Chaos
What was meant to be a showcase event for Scottish MMA quickly turned into one of the most disrupted fight cards in recent Cage Warriors history.
Whether it was simply a run of bad luck or a card plagued by misfortune, Cage Warriors 205 in Glasgow will be remembered for its chaos as much as its competition.
Still, the remaining fighters will look to deliver on home soil and salvage the night for the Glasgow crowd.
