Nik Bagley previews first Cage Warriors title defence against Aiden Lee at Cage Warriors 208
Nik Bagley discusses his first Cage Warriors featherweight title defence against Aiden Lee, his championship mindset and why his focus remains firmly on Cage Warriors 208.
Becoming a champion has done little to alter Nik Bagley's mindset ahead of his first Cage Warriors featherweight title defence.
Ahead of the defence of his featherweight title against Aiden Lee at Cage Warriors 208 on Saturday, June 27, at London's Indigo at The O2, Bagley remains focused on the same process that carried him to championship gold in the first place.
Bagley trains out of Great Britain Top Team, the London gym that has also produced UFC flyweight Lone'er Kavanagh.
No Change in Mindset Despite Title Success
“I always get ready for the hardest fight possible,” he said. “And then if it ends up being easier than I prepared for, then perfect. But I'm ready for the hardest fight of my life.”
When Bagley looks back at the evening he won the belt at Cage Warriors 200 in Dublin against Solomon Simon, it sits more as confirmation of his place among the elite than a defining career moment.
The bout tested his output, going the full five rounds, but Bagley kept his composure and earned a unanimous decision victory.
“It went five rounds, I prepared for five rounds, and I was ready to go five rounds straight pushing the pace hard,” he said. “And if I end it earlier, then so be it. But I was ready for the distance.”
Bagley Expects a Complete Test from Aiden Lee
The stylistic similarities between Bagley and his challenger Lee have been easy for fans to point toward. Both carry reputations as finishers on the ground, both comfortable hunting submissions when fights hit the mat.
Bagley holds a 7-1 record in Cage Warriors, with five of those victories coming via submission. Impressively, every one has been a rear-naked choke, all secured within the opening two rounds.
Since returning to Cage Warriors in 2024, Lee has also built his recent success around his grappling, with each of his victories coming via rear-naked choke.
But Bagley isn’t buying much stock in the idea that this will simply become a grappler-versus-grappler chess match.
“As much as people say we’re both rear-naked choke guys, there’s a lot more layers to both of our games,” he said. “He can strike, I can strike, he can grapple, I can grapple. I don’t think people see everything we can do.”
Despite the obvious similarities, Bagley isn’t approaching Aiden Lee as a straightforward MMA puzzle. If anything, he sees the man standing opposite him as a far more complete threat.
“People make it sound like it’s just one thing with him, but he’s a good fighter. He’s got a lot more to his game than people probably give him credit for.”
Lee’s recent run of form has forced him into title contention, coming into the bout on the back of consecutive victories over Damon Wilson in November and Inglesson de Lara in March.
UFC Ambitions Can Wait
Beyond the immediate title defence, Bagley’s trajectory is already beginning to stretch further than Cage Warriors.
While his focus remains firmly on Saturday night, there is an awareness that performances like this tend to carry weight beyond the domestic stage and potentially towards the UFC.
“There’s always conversations happening in the background,” he said. “But I’ve committed to the title defence, so that’s what I’m doing now. All my focus is on defending my belt on June 27.”
Bagley is still preparing for chaos wherever it comes, still expecting resistance, still convinced the hardest fight is always the one ahead.
And that, more than anything else, is exactly how he intends to keep it.
