UFC Vegas 121 became an alarming picture when one half of the main event, Raoni Barcelos, was thrown into unconsciousness suddenly in the final round.

A typical UFC Fight Night turned into a worrying scene when the main event of Vegas 121 ended in a frightening and unexpected way.

Raúl Rosas Jr. and Raoni Barcelos went to war over 5-rounds in their main event slot, before Barcelos collapsed during a takedown in the final round.

The fight was promptly called, with Rosas Jr. declared the winner via KO.

Rosas Jr. and Barcelos Declare War

The main event of UFC Vegas 121 saw one of the youngest on the roster in Rosas Jr, take on a streaking gnarled veteran in Raoni Barcelos.

From the first bell it became apparent that the two bantamweights were prepared to exchange at a staggering volume, with both men throwing 300 strikes each before the end of the fight.

After 4 rounds, Barcelos was winning on the scorecards, prevailing as both the older man and underdog, with one judge even handing him a 10:8 round in the fourth.

The fight had one final twist however.

During the fifth round, a heavy elbow from Barcelos set up a grappling exchange between the fighters. Rosas Jr. tripped Barcelos and sent him down onto the mat, where the 39 year-old collapsed into unconsciousness seemingly out of nowhere.

Fortunately the Brazilian's state was noticed by both Rosas Jr almost immediately, where he was attended by medical staff inside the cage before being stretchered out.

Rosas Jr. was declared winner via KO by way of slam in the midst of a very alarming scene.

In his post-fight interview, he said: "First, i want everyone tonight to pray for Raoni Barcelos, man, he's a warrior and it takes two to tango."

Barcelos' Condition Stabilises

After the event, the UFC released on a statement on their fighter's condition, who was immediately sent to a local hospital in Vegas.

They said: "Following his fight tonight, Raoni Barcelos was immediately transported to a Level 1 trauma center for evaluation.

The hospital medical team conducted a CT scan and comprehensive assessment, and he is currently being monitored.

Barcelos is stable, alert and responsive, with full movement. He will remain under medical supervision. We will provide updates on his condition as they become available."

In addition to the UFC's official announcement, Barcelos' coach, Davi Ramos, confirmed on social media that his fighter is doing okay.

On an Instagram story he said: "Hey guys, Raoni is fine, everything is alright, everyone can stay calm. He just went to do the tomography now, but everything is fine."

Though thankfully Barcelos seems to be in a stable and positive condition, it is still unknown on what rendered him unconscious so suddenly.
