Kingdom Combat Championship continues growth with titles wins and fast finishes

Diogo Ramos: “I don’t really have game plans walking into it, I just fight my fight and whatever happens happens.”

Kingdom Combat Championship drew a packed Liverpool crowd this weekend for its eleventh event.

Promoter Gavin Melia delivered a lengthy card built around fresh amateur talent, with two European amateur titles on the line, for the self described fastest growing MMA event promotion in Europe.

Fourteen amateur fights opened the prelims, producing eight finishes, including seven submissions and an impressive TKO by Liam Meredith (2-0), who stopped his opponent in under 20 seconds of the first round.

The second half of the show opened with the amateur European flyweight title contest.

Liverpool’s Bradley McDonough (4-0), representing Titanium Combat Academy, remained undefeated with a first round guillotine submission over Spain’s Alberto Perez (4-1) of Sevilla Fight Center.

The venue atmosphere shifted ahead of the next Kingdom Combat Championship title bout.

Tom Harvey (10-3), out of Liverpool Aspire Combat Sports Academy, defended his amateur European bantamweight title against Portuguese contender Diogo Ramos (8-5), who represents Knuckle Heads MMA.

Ramos controlled Harvey for most of the three rounds with impressive grappling, extending his win streak to six consecutive victories with an arm triangle submission in the final 30 seconds of the third round.

He said: “I’m feeling good. It’s good to be back, being back in there and enjoying the moment.”

Ramos had not fought since June 2024.

Reflecting on the finish, Ramos added: “When I got the submission, I was remembering the interview we did before, where he doubted I could finish him.”

As for what’s next, he said: “We’ll talk to my coach, see what’s next, but maybe pro.”

Many spectators began leaving after the fight, highlighting how the bout was widely viewed as the night’s main event.

The professional card opened with Manchester’s Josh Kelly, fighting out of Subzone, facing short notice opponent Will Cairns. Kelly damaged Cairns’ leg early before finishing him with elbows to secure his first professional win via TKO.

A brutal first round knockout followed, as Neils Goitom (5-1) of Grundy Fight Academy stopped Pedro Henrique Prado (1-2) of K2 MMA Team with a head kick, leaving Prado requiring an oxygen mask.

Another elbow driven TKO came courtesy of Antony McGovern (8-1), who stopped Assirem Gym’s Farid Chalal (0-2).

Two professional bouts went to decision, with MMA Academy fighters Kyle Jones (6-2) and Layton Kane (4-1) both earning victories.

In the official main event, Brazil’s Danny Dixon (11-8, 1 NC) of Chute Boxe defeated Welsh Danny Dixon (5-4) of North Wales Fight Academy via second round rear naked choke. The Brazilian’s grappling control and combination heavy striking proved decisive, despite strong Welsh fan support for Dixon.

The event demonstrated the promotion’s focus on developing emerging talent and delivering high quality MMA to local crowds. Kingdom Combat Championship continues to position itself as a growing force within the MMA landscape.
