Mason 'The Dragon' Jones returns to the UFC on August 22 as he takes on MarQuel Mederos in a lightweight clash at UFC Sacramento. The Welshman brings a seven-fight winning streak into a bout that could move the winner closer to the lightweight rankings.
Mason 'The Dragon' Jones will return to the UFC on August 22 when he faces MarQuel Mederos in a lightweight bout at UFC Sacramento in California.
The Welshman is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak, with his most recent outing earning Fight of the Night honours after a thrilling battle against Axel Sola at UFC London in March.
Jones Building Momentum in Second UFC Stint
Jones' second spell in the UFC has been hugely successful. The Welshman has won all three of his bouts since returning to the promotion, extending his professional record to 18-2.
A comprehensive decision victory over Jeremy Stephens in May 2025, followed by a brutal TKO win over Bolaji Okli, demonstrated just how much Jones has evolved since his first run with the organisation.
Mederos Looks to Continue Unbeaten Run
Mederos enters the contest following a majority draw against Chris Padilla in April at UFC 327 and brings a ten-fight unbeaten streak into the bout.
The Colorado native earned his UFC contract with an impressive TKO victory on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2023 and has since compiled a 3-0-1 record inside the Octagon.
With an overall record of 11-1-1, Mederos has fewer professional bouts than Jones, but both men are at a similar stage in their UFC careers and will view this fight as an opportunity to move closer to the lightweight rankings.
UFC Sacramento Adds Exciting Lightweight Contest
Jones has developed a reputation for delivering entertaining fights, with his victories over Bolaji Okli and Axel Sola earning Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night bonuses respectively.
The lightweight contest will take place at UFC Sacramento inside the Golden 1 Center and joins a middleweight clash between Anthony 'Fluffy' Hernandez and Gregory 'Robocop' Rodrigues.
